About Trinity Lumber & Building Supply
Weaverville, CA

Making Your House a Home Since 1955
Trinity Lumber & Building Supply began in 1955 with the purchase of Hanlon Lumber, a Weaverville planing mill that also included a concrete batch plant and sand & gravel operation. Founders Hal Goodyear and Bob Marshall grew the business during a time of economic expansion driven by the construction of Trinity Dam. When Bob Marshall retired in 1969, the Goodyear family carried on the vision.
In 1982, Gene Goodyear purchased the company and led the first major remodel, transforming the lumberyard and creating a 3,500 sq. ft., four-level hardware store. As the community grew, so did Trinity Lumber—expanding products and services, and joining the Do it Best cooperative in 1996. Further upgrades between 2009 and 2012 modernized the yard and completely remodeled the store.
In 2013, Merritt Goodyear, the third generation of the family, purchased the business. Having grown up in the store—sweeping floors, loading trucks, and driving deliveries—Merritt now leads the company with the same dedication to service and quality that has guided Trinity Lumber since the beginning.
After more than seven decades, Trinity Lumber & Building Supply remains a cornerstone of Weaverville—providing high-quality materials, expert knowledge, and a trusted commitment to helping our customers make their house a home.
Merritt Goodyear – Third Generation Owner
Merritt Goodyear grew up in the aisles and lumberyard of Trinity Lumber & Building Supply. From sweeping floors and helping customers as a kid, to driving trucks and loading materials as a teenager, Merritt learned every part of the business hands-on.
In 2013, Merritt purchased the company, becoming the third generation to lead Trinity Lumber. He continues his family’s commitment to quality products, dependable service, and community values—while also bringing a forward-looking vision to serve today’s contractors, homeowners, and do-it-yourselfers.
Trinity Lumber remains very much a family business. Merritt’s wife, Sarah, works in the store, and their sons, Wade and Keir, often join the team as summer employees—representing the fourth generation to grow up in the business.
For the Goodyear family, Trinity Lumber is more than a business—it’s a family legacy and a way to give back to the community that has supported them for over 70 years.
